Andrew Regan | TransAntarctic Expedition
Andrew Regan will be returning to the South Pole shortly to lead the Moon-Regan TransAntarctic Expedition along with Andrew Moon. As part of the expedition they will be using the Concept Ice Vehicle (CIV), a craft specially designed to cope with the area's extreme conditions. The CIV is a propellor driven skidoo which was designed by Lotus. It is also capable of running on bio-fuel, making it more eco-friendly.
Andrew Regan and Andrew Moon hope to use the expedition to raise awareness about the environmental importance of the Antarctica region, as well as showing that bio-fuel can can be a sustainable option and practical energy alternative. As Andrew Regan says: “If you can run bio-fuels successfully in the most harsh and extreme environment in the world, then there is no reason why you can’t use them to get to the supermarket!”
As part of the expedition the team will be carrying out scientific experiments to illustrate the effects of climate change on the region. Findings will be made available as educational resources. The team will also be updating the world about their progress though video blogs and other web-based resources. The expedition is expected to depart in the new year.
