The beginning of an adventure Part 1

As we stepped off the plane we were welcomed by a man wearing a full, seal skin outfit and a wind chill factor of below minus 25 degrees. That set the tone for what would end out being incredible experience on the top of the world!

After checking our supplies for the walk to the pole we were invited into the main camp’s tent where we would have our last warm drink before making the walk over to the helicopter.

The pilots found a suitable spot for us to land on and we touched-down in, what was literally, the middle of nowhere. 

Once the helicopter had left to return to base camp, I was amazed by how secluded we now were. I could look in a complete 360 degree circle and could see nothing but the odd ice mound. 

The sky was a perfect royal blue and we could see for an easy 10km as the air was so pure.  I had to remind myself of where I was as it was all so surreal.

The walk started towards the pole and I was kitted out with giant ski shoes to spread my weight and tackle some of the harsh terrain. I also was wearing a harness that was attached to my sled I was dragging, this had all the equipment we would need for the overnight stay at the pole. 

We are so close to the Pole and you won’t believe what happens next.
